Using the Gallery

Each gallery EXHIBIT immediately displays

a small image of the artwork,
the title of the picture,
the media of the picture,
the unframed size (horizontal by vertical, in inches),
the price of the work, and
whether the price is for an unframed,
        framed, or mounted artwork.

The gallery EXHIBIT wall scrolls horizontally.  All the important information should be visible without vertical scrolling; if not, see IMPROVE YOUR DISPLAY.  If all the images in the gallery don't load the first time, or stop loading, click RELOAD or REFRESH.

Some internet service providers speed up ("accelerate") your connection by decreasing IMAGE QUALITY.  To improve image quality, RIGHT-CLICK the image and select "Refresh picture with full quality."  Or to improve all images, RIGHT-CLICK your internet connection icon (probably on the lower right of your screen), and disable your acceleration.

Click on any image to view an ENLARGEMENT of the art in a new browser window, often with more information about the media.  This enlargement will take from 5 to 20 seconds to load if you have a modem connection.  The enlagement image and the main exhibit may not load simultaneously, so either wait for the entire EXHIBIT to load, or stop the exhibit loading and then restart it after looking at the enlargement.

After opening enlargements, to return to a prior exhibit, you may have to press the BACK BUTTON repeatedly.  Instead, you may wish to use the navigation bar on the left or the menu at the end of the exhibit to return to a previous page.

WARNING: Some POPUP BLOCKERS prevent enlargements and some other pages from opening!  In this case, disable the popup blocker for this site, or hold down the CONTROL KEY while clicking the image or link.

You may SAVE ENLARGEMENTS for later review or comparison by minimizing them instead of closing them.  You may have multiple enlargements open at one time.  But some browsers won't "open" an enlargement again if it is already open, so to avoid "losing" enlargements, MINIMIZE or CLOSE them before returning to the exhibit.

To SAVE THE IMAGE to your personal computer, right-click any image in the EXHIBIT or any enlargement.  Be sure to note which EXHIBIT the image is from if you want to find it again later on the site, as that information is not connected to the image.

E-CARDS are available from all enlargements.  The e-cards are designed to arrive in the body of the recipient's e-mail for your recipient's pleasure and convenience; if this is not technically possible for your recipient, the card will arrive in an attachment, or there may be a link back to the image on my site.

If you click on the enlargement, a CLOSE-UP of some part of the image will load in 5 to 20 seconds by modem.  The close-up may not be the center of interest of the work of art; I try to choose a part that best shows the different media or techniques used in the art.

ENHANCED ENLARGEMENTS are available from the enlargements of some complex images (mostly in the PATTERN ABSTRACT exhibit).  These take from 30 seconds to 2 minutes to open by modem connection.

The MEDIA of the artwork is shown at the bottom or to the right of the enlargement, or click on Media.

Art PRICES are based mostly on the labor involved in creating the picture.  Therefore, some pictures cost much more than other pictures of the same size; for example, a quick figure study may take less than an hour, while a detailed painting of the same size may take 50 hours.  They are priced accordingly.  And of course, if the art is already framed and/or mounted, that adds to the price.

When considering the prices, and the additional costs of shipping (unless you are local), handling, and future picture framing, please bear in mind the following:

Most works on paper, if unmounted, can be rolled and shipped in a shipping tube, or shipped flat, for a modest price.  Allow $100 to $300 for a good custom frame, depending on size and frame style.
For a mounted work on paper, or a work on some kind of artist's board, the mounting has been done.  The work is too stiff for rolling and needs to be shipped flat, with the handling and shipping cost depending on size.
A work on paper labelled "+mount" is one which is not presently mounted but will require mounting to look its best.  This is often the case for mixed media works on paper.  I usually do not mount my artwork until it is required.  You should add $30 or so to the listed price for museum-grade mounting.
For a framed work on paper, the price of the picture frame is included.  This will be a custom frame designed by me; in a few cases I will sell the work unframed for a lower price.  A large framed work under glass may cost hundreds of dollars to ship.
Most works on canvas, if framed, are in simple wooden edging.  These works have no glass, so shipping should cost less than for a framed work on paper of equivalent size.  They might also be unstretched for shipping.  Framing could cost from $0 to $200+, depending on how you do it.
