About this Site
This is the online art gallery of a San Francisco Bay Area visual artist, Sharon Hudson. I am an artist who works primarily in two-dimensional fine art media (painting, oil and dry pastel, collage, colored and graphite pencil drawing, mixed media, etc.). I have a sensual approach to the human figure, still lifes, abstracts, and portraits. About 600 original works of figurative and abstract art, suitable for home and office, can be viewed and purchased on the site.

The purpose of the site is to present my art to the public, to sell my original art, and to provide a convenient way for galleries and publishers to see my art. Later I may also sell reproductions of my work in other forms and products like cards, posters, and so forth.
New art appears on the site as I am able to photograph it, prepare it for digital display, and enter it into the appropriate exhibits. Because of the time required to do this, new work appears only once or twice a year. But this does not mean I am not busy experimenting and creating new art and photography at all times! I remove most sold works to avoid cluttering the site.
E-cards are available from almost all ENLARGEMENTS on this site. Just go to any EXHIBIT in the GALLERY, open an enlargement, and click "Send e-card!" The e-card can have multiple recipients. The card with image is designed to arrive in the body of the recipient's e-mail program; alternatively, the card may arrive as an attachment, or there may be a link back to the image on my site.
I am always interested in feedback about the site or the art, so don't hesitate to e-mail me at
The best way to overview the site offerings is to look at the SITE MAP, which links to all parts of the site. Additional useful information for using the site is available throughout, including:
How to IMPROVE YOUR DISPLAY to best view the site and the work, and to adjust your color,
Information on USING THE GALLERY, and
Permitted USE OF WEB IMAGES.
Now see some of my photography online. I have thousands of photographs, and about 100 of them are viewable on my sample PHOTOGRAPHY page, organized by theme. My photography is mostly abstract and surreal, with lots of color, texture, and pattern, and multiple exposures. Many of my images are from Mexico and East Asia.
It's an Artist's Life . . .(I wish!)
2011: I'm starting the year with a new art studio, a number of unstuck windows, better heating and drainage systems, and innumerable other improvements. But with several major remodeling projects still in progress, I anticipate another six months before the art studio is not doing double-duty as a shop. So I haven't been doing art yet, since not that many media are benefitted by occasional doses of fine sawdust! I guess the house is my art project for now. It does look great, and the yard is also looking pretty good. I have put in most of my screening landscaping (trees and vines); the rest is not so urgent. No camping trips for the past two years, but a hammock in a sunny area of the back yard is a minor consolation.
2009: After a lengthy and tortuous ordeal with several banks, I bought a delightful house in Oakland, which is just about perfect for me--although who can't use more space?--already! I have been working diligently to fix the place up and am preparing to convert some spaces to studio areas. So much work, about a year's worth--to start--including a few major structural alterations. The yard is ample and has some nice trees, but is suffering from many years of neglect. Birds and squirrels abound.
2008: I decided to buy a house after almost forty years as a renter! Therefore much of the year was spent house-hunting. No vacation; little art-making.
2007: I had artworks on display until April at Theatre 39 at Pier 39 in San Francisco, as part of a four-woman show in conjunction with the local production of "Menopause The Musical." I am also currently working on pursuing publishing opportunities and marketing my work, including my photography, in other ways.
2007: In March I spent a week with a friend in Los Padres National Forest and Fort Hunter Liggett, Big Sur, Carmel, and Monterey. No reading, no thinking, no work; just fun. We saw three bobcats on the military base and visited many galleries on the coast.
2006: In September I spent two weeks in the redwoods at Mendocino: thinking, reading, beachcombing, visiting galleries, etc. After four years of involvement in local politics, during which I have learned more than it is healthy to know about the inner workings of the city government, I reduced my civic work load somewhat (in part because of the apparent futility of public input) and was able to spend more time on my art. I have so many ideas I have been unable to bring to fruition in the past few years! I am preparing to move into mosaic work now.
2005: In late summer of 2005 I spent three weeks camping in Los Padres National Forest and visiting a friend in Soledad, California, in the Salinas Valley. Our "base camp" was a fabulous small campground among 300-year-old oak trees, near an idyllic stream and great rock formations, in the interior. We also spent several days on the coast side.
I built this site using Adobe GoLive 4.0.1 and basic HTML coding, and went online near the end of year 2000.
An excellent resource book for HTML is HTML for the World Wide Web by Elizabeth Castro.
An excellent online question & answer board for html is http://www.cookwood.com/cgi-bin/lcastro/htmlbbs.pl?#5778 at Elizabeth Castro's website. Thanks to everyone there who helped me.
Thanks also to my brother, Toren, who cheerfully provided vital technical support and useful feedback.
My site host is http://your-site.com. They provide a lot of megabytes for relatively little money and are reliable and helpful. If you decide to use them, please say I sent you. Unfortunately, however, they have recently changed their web statistics provider to one that is no longer very useful.
The e-card script for this site was provided with the generous help of Demien Leri.
